(7 Jun 2020) Scotland on Sunday reported no new deaths from the new coronavirus for the first time since the country began lockdown measures to tackle the pandemic. The figures, announced by Scottish Health Secretary Jeane Freeman, came with news that there had been a further 18 cases of the new virus confirmed in the last 24 hours. But Freeman warned the public to take the figures with "a note of caution" due to the lag in recording deaths over the weekend. "We know that fewer deaths tend to be registered at the weekend than on other days of the week. It is still very likely that further COVID deaths will be reported in the days ahead", she said. Scotland also continues to urge people to stay at home, contrary to advice from the UK government, which has slowly been opening up from lockdown in England.
