@maddie91854 years ago I don’t know about Vitamin D and COVID but I have been taking high dose vitamin D and K2 for the past 12 years and I can honestly say that I haven’t gotten a major cold, sinus or throat infection in the past 12 years. 195

@terrifuentes43234 years ago I am a cardiac rehab nurse. Almost ALL patients that I enroll into the program have a low Vit D blood level, if it’s been tested, unless they are supplementing. It was by happenstance that I noticed this, now I always look for a Vit D level. As a nurse, too, I see more men with osteopenia (thinning bones) or even osteoporosis. Very interesting. Thank you Dr Been. Love your video. ... 6

@nicoledburns824 years ago I have been taking vitamin d3, k2 and magnesium for years. Im a white woman in Arizona and my Doctor said there should be no reason I would be vitamin d deficient but to ease my mind she ordered my vitamin levels to be checked. My vitamin d3 level was 10 and anything under 25 is deemed extreme deficient. I started taking 5000ui a day along with the k2 and magnesium and now do 5000 ui every other day. 3 years ago all 3 of my kids and my husband came down with influenza a, influenza b and strep throat within a 4 month period and I was the only one who didn't get sick. I honestly think it was because of my vitamins. I now have my 3 kids and husband on 2000ui 5 days a week and my husband also takes k2 too. ... 160

@Ingridwallis3 years ago Thank you so very much for this information Doc!
As a result of my understanding from your very detailed information when I discovered that my vit D levels were low, despite taking more than 75ug a day and my eGFRcreat (kidney function) was outside the normal range I understood that my vit D levels were probably low due to my kidneys not synthesising the vitamins as they were supposed to be.
I subsequently changed my diet and in 6 months I reversed my kidney function reading and my vit D levels are now normal.
I am truly grateful for the lectures you share here.

@bjspeck43374 years ago I have been on D3 for 15 years now due to thinning bones in my 50s. I had little to no Calcium uptake. My D3 level was at 13. I worked inside from dawn to dusk, little to no exposure to sun. A (borrowed) doctor told me that I needed to take D3 and Calcium. I have been taking between 2000 to 5000 IU daily and my levels are steadily around 50. I had a dexascan about 3 years ago and my bones are solid again. When I heard that European doctors were tracking good results for people that high levels of D3 during this covid-19 pandemic, I upped my levels to the 5000 IU, did a little more research and found that it interferes with melatonin if you take it in the evening, so I take my dose in the morning. Curiosity got the better of me and I had time and went through a drive through test site to see if anything showed up. I'm 69, a bit overweight, have exercise-induced asthma and (controlled A1C of 5.9) diabetes. I live alone since my husband died of colon cancer 3 years ago and have 78 acres of land that I live on. Seldom go out - just to get fodder for my horse, cats and myself - oh, and Goodwill to get more books to read. I was shocked to learn that I tested positive. Self-quarantined for 2 weeks, retook the test, and with a neg result repeated the test in another 2 weeks to be neg again. I was totally asymptomatic, nurse called me everyday, checking temperature, oximeter readings, etc. I don't know if my taking D3 along with ER Vit C for the asthma had anything to do with my good results, but I keep taking it. I've had my senior 4-flu shot. I want no complications. I am going to the blood center and have my blood checked for antibodies in case I need to donate some plasma. Oh yeah I do take Magnesium due to some night leg cramps.
My husband was discovered with stage 4 colon cancer and lived 10 years before succumbing to it. I hope the D3 helped - I know it didn't hurt. He worked at his job right up to 3 days before he died. When he was diagnosed I was working at Florida State University with the grad students, some of whom where in med school. I had access to medical journals which is what turned me onto D3 and made me a lifetime believer. I was terrified of bringing something home with students who traveled all around the world and US and I was seeing them daily. I did get my flu shots, but didn't come home with any colds, or weird illnesses other than what I have had. I also paid for Calcium scoring a few years back because my mother died of a massive heart attack at 70 and I was closing in on that age. My scoring was a 0 and my doctor who is a cardiologist said I was good to go. I read as much as I can find and am very proactive on my health.

@captainamerica90284 years ago Thanks Dr. Been, I totally agree, Vitamin D protects people from Covid. I think why vitamin D is so important is because it is needed for B12 absorption since there are vitamin D receptors in the stomach cells that make intrinsic factor to absorb B12. When the D gets low the B12 gets low, and B12 is needed for white blood cell production. I've been taking alot of Vitamin D and also alot of methyl B12. I've been taking high doses of both to keep my white blood cell production at a high rate. ... 15

Have stage 4 CKD, and am certain this is important for fact that I have no cardiovascular consequences despite long-term drug resistant hypertension. Wish you were my doctor, as I am sure you would figure out CAUSE of my HTN instead of just throwing endless drugs which have not reduced BP, but have caused endless adverse side effects. ... 33

@marioiwancz43104 years ago Thank you for the information, i hope that studies into vit D + K2 for health will gather in strength, my wife and I have been on these two items for 5 years and also we get as much sun on our skins as we can in our northen hemisphere England.
Has anyone looked at a factor of the need for cholesterol in the conversion from raw vit D to D3, as LDL cholesterol is a building block when they are not glycated or oxidised, due to high sugar/carbohydrate diets. Unfortunately, no real gold standard studies have been done prior to the changes in our diets to a sugar/carbohydrate combined eating way of life, back in the 50’s 60’s before the year on year in crease of obesity and type 2 diabetes, to present day, obesity, heart problems, diabetes, with all the associated ill health problems. With the increase of glycated/oxidised LDL, came the so called wonder drug Statins, which reduce not only the “bad” LDL, but the good LDL we need for healthy building blocks, to assist with the natural production/conversion of raw vit D that the body can use to help in the battle with viruses and bacteria.
Adding vit D or better still D3 + k2 to our diets in a natural way, or purely as a supplement will help but would be, in my opinion have a far greater effect of getting into our systems, once Statins are replaced with good eating habits of zero sugar and very low carbohydrates, obesity would reduce and so too would type 2 diabetes and associated heart condition.

@garzascreek4 years ago - Ergocalciferol is pre-liver hydroxylation not post. It is from irradiated mushrooms or yeast and is an alternate (vegetarian) form of the inactive vitamin D precursor. Just as cholecalciferol is hydroxylated in the liver to calcifidiol, ergocalciferol is hydroxylated in the liver to ercalcidiol. The subsequent kidney hydroxylations would then be to calcitriol and ercalcitriol respectively (both active Vitamin D). ... 1

@eelkeaptroot13934 years ago Ok, thanks doc! I actually managed to share this video out to a medical professional and she had the following criticism the amount of people in the two groups were not equal and matched and the control group had more cases of hypertension. She also mentioned that jumping to conclusions about this all being vitamin D related is premature, cause not all the mechanisms of vitamin D are known. However she did mention that she puts some of her diabetic patients who are deficient on a huge dose of vitamin D3 too. I really think they're on to something here, since poor vitamin D status was mentioned as a risk factor for severe Covid from the beginning, of course it could also be confounding factors related to obesity, but I'm definitely hoping more studies will be done on it. ... 2

@vegahimsa30574 years ago Hypertension, t2 diabetes, and obesity are most significant risk factors. The non-vitamin D group had far more risk factors. Additionally, the numbers are not statistically significant. Interesting preliminary study of course, but not conclusive. ... 5
