It's AJ with etrailer.com today, we're gonna checking out the Yakima Sky Box 18 it's gonna be a rooftop style cargo box, and it's gonna be on a 2015 Toyota 4runner. So this is gonna be a way to store your gear up and outta your vehicle, which is gonna make more leg room for everybody else on your trip, which always makes everybody else happy. From skis to suitcases or bags, you can put whatever you want up there and just make more space in here. Let's check it out. Sky Box 18 is gonna be the second biggest sky box that Yakima offers. They have a 21 cubic feet one as well. This one's 18 cubic feet. It's gonna still fit plenty of your gear up there and get it up outta your 4runner. One thing I wanna point out though right away is that you can't open the back hatch with the 18 cubic feet one up there. So the sky box 18 with this vehicle I'll show you I'll bring up the back hatch. It will make contact with the box. So I just wanna be honest with you about that, but I mean the door does open quite a bit. So you'd still be able to hold this with one hand and get something outta there if you wanted to, if that doesn't matter to you. And also with your 4runner, your back glass rolls down. So if you're doing smaller items, you can roll down that back glass, reach in there, get that, put that. Or if you're transferring from back here to up there you can easily still do that. So it doesn't really ruin to have that box up there. It's just what you wanted to use it for. Taking a closer look at the sky box. You can see it has a textured finish on the outside. I like that because some of the other rooftop boxes just have a glossy finish and those look nice at first, but they are easily scratched. So like the first time you take it off your roof, set aside in the garage, you have to worry about anything at comes in contact with, can make a little scratch. With that textured finish it's gonna be just a little bit tougher than those glossy ones and just look better for a longer time I think. With the sky box you get two keys because you can do the latch on both sides. So what I mean by that is you can unlock it. You need a key to unlock the latch so you can pull down on it and open from both sides. So you gotta pull down out on it, push up on the lid, and it pops up. It's got the assist on the side. They're gonna help it pop up and stay up. So you don't have to worry about holding this up while you're loading your gear in there. But also let's say that you're on the side of the road or just have a preferred side of the vehicle. You can move the box wherever side you need to and open it from both ends. Now the key to doesn't come out when you have it open. So you don't have to worry about losing the key with it open. It stays right there. So then when you close it then you can pull the key back out. So kind of show you that there's also a handle here. I like that because sometimes they don't have them. And sometimes it's just a little bit of a reach to grab that and get a good hold because of the lid. You don't wanna pull down too far on one side versus the other. So it's easier to pull right down here in the middle to get it down to here, get a better grip on it, to close it up. Once it latches in the place you see, I can turn the key and remove it so I can easily go on the other side and open that side if it's easier to load from there. But right now we're gonna still stick to this side. Looking at the inside here. It's got some unique features I like. For one, you can see the red tie down points here. I like that they're red. They stick out. So it's easy to see when everything else is black here on the inside. You can easily see where you can tie things down. Especially if you have more cargo put in there bags and stuff. It's kind of hard to see anything. The red sticks out so you can spot it. Then you have the way it attaches to your crossbar. So you're gonna have a latch system. So I pull back on this and then that loosens the clamp underneath. So then that loosens that jaw and I can move that or slide it outta the way back and forth. So you have a little bit of adjustment room when you're setting this up on the roof. So made it easy to set up here with the clamps kind of pushed to the side, get it in the place and then slide the clamps in. And then the nice thing about the latch is it remembers how tight it has to be. So it's not a knob that
