Next to him is his grown daughter Caroline. Daisy asks Caroline to read her the diary of Daisy's lifelong friend Benjamin Button. Benjamin's diary describes his entire extraordinary life, whose main unusual feature was his aging in reverse, because he was diagnosed with several aging diseases at birth and thus had little chance of survival, but who survives and becomes younger with time. Abandoned by Benjamin's biological father, Thomas Button, Benjamin was raised by Queenie, a black woman and nursing home nurse, after Benjamin's biological mother died in childbirth. Daisy's grandmother lived in the home where she first met Benjamin. Although separated over the years, Daisy and Benjamin stay in touch throughout their lives and return in their 0s when they finally meet. Some of the revelations in Benjamin's diary are difficult for Caroline to read, especially as they relate to Benjamin's past and Daisy's reunion, as Daisy ages and Benjamin relives his childhood years.
