This video reviews the application of the Ultimation Disc Sander for truing and cleaning up segmented wedges for producing segmented discs. This manual disc sander was originally designed for applications in Model Railroading and other small art woodworking projects. In this video I am determining if this system can be used to sand the segmented wedges that are used in segmented woodturning projects. Using the system in manual mode worked quite well for sanding the segmented wedges that go to a perfect point in the center such as the segmented discs used on the bottom of bowls. This disc sander also worked quite well in sanding segmented wedges onto which additional contrasting wood spacers were used. I was able to sand these added spacers to the shape of the segmented disc. Finally, I added a small 24 VDC 200 rpm motor to the Ultimation disc sander. This modified system worked quite well to clean up the larger segmented wedges. Overall, this system worked quite well and I recommend its application in cleaning up or truing up segmented wedges.
