Mubarak family statement on the successful conclusion of all international judicial proceedings.

The decade-long international legal battle for the family of President Mubarak has come to an end following the recent ruling of the EU General Court. The court’s ruling acknowledged once again that restrictive measures imposed on the family by the EU Council were unlawful from the outset for relying on Egyptian proceedings that violated their fundamental fair trial rights as guaranteed by the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. This was followed by the decision of the Swiss Federal Prosecutor’s office fully exonerating Alaa and Gamal Mubarak after their 11-year criminal investigation was concluded. In the same context, the UK authorities have acknowledged that the same underlying Egyptian proceedings against the Mubarak family do not meet the required legal test under UK law to impose sanctions against them.
